The service

Origin Story Essays is an educational tutoring service for high school students working on college application essays. We provide one-on-one writing instruction sessions (60 minutes) and asynchronous draft editing (30-minute blocks of work, feedback typically returned within 72 hours). Tutoring means instruction, guidance, structural feedback and revision support — it is not ghostwriting, and it is not admissions consulting, application strategy or advisory services. The student writes their own essay. We make no promise, guarantee or implication regarding admissions outcomes, scholarships or grades.

Your account and information

You agree to provide accurate booking and contact information and to keep it up to date. You are responsible for keeping any access credentials confidential and for activity that occurs under your booking or email address.

Acceptable use

You must not misuse the service, including by:

• using it for any unlawful purpose, or in violation of a school's academic honesty policy;
• engaging in fraud, spam or impersonation;
• submitting content you do not have the rights to, or that infringes anyone's intellectual property or privacy;
• interfering with the security or integrity of the site — malware, probing, scanning, scraping or circumventing technical limits;
• reselling, redistributing or reverse engineering any part of the service.

Your content and our intellectual property

You keep ownership of the essays, drafts and materials you submit. You grant us a limited licence to host, review and annotate that content solely to provide feedback to you. If you believe content submitted to us infringes your rights, email support@originstoryessays.com and we will review and remove infringing material; repeat infringers lose access.

We retain ownership of the website, our tutoring frameworks, worksheets, branding and all related intellectual property. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use them for your own personal tutoring purposes.

Service level

We aim to keep the site and scheduling available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free performance. Sessions may occasionally need to be rescheduled; we will offer an alternative time or a refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Payment, billing and refunds

Origin and essay tutoring sessions are $150 per 60-minute session; academic tutoring sessions are $100 per 60-minute session; out-of-session editing is $75 per 30-minute block. Payment is taken at the time of booking, and the booking is confirmed once payment completes. Card details are handled by our payment processor, Stripe, and are never stored by us. Cancellation and refund mechanics are governed by our Refund Policy.

Origin Story Essays is the seller of record for all orders. Card payments are processed securely by Stripe. Any applicable sales tax is calculated at checkout and shown before you pay. We handle all customer service enquiries and refunds directly.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access for material breach of these terms, non-payment or chargeback abuse, security or fraud risk, or repeated or serious policy violations. You may stop using the service at any time. On termination, any unused prepaid sessions are handled under the Refund Policy, and we will provide a reasonable window to retrieve materials you shared before deletion.

Warranties, liability and indemnity

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential or special damages, including lost profits, data or goodwill. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law. You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your unlawful use of the service, or your breach of these terms.

General

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, and the courts located there have exclusive jurisdiction, without limiting mandatory consumer rights in your country of residence. You may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger or sale of the business. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond its reasonable control. We may update these terms and will post the revised version here with a new "last updated" date.
